Why Have Some Workers Unionized?
They belong to the CASW, but in the 1970's social workers
began to unionize because of the economic climate where
often professional integrity and commitment are overshadowed
by pressures to freeze or cut salaries, and cut services.
Social workers were upset and felt in order to address
these issues, they felt they needed a more level playing
field -- a trade union. They wanted to discuss collective
bargaining rights, employment equity, pay equity,
health and safety.
