Best interests approach - The best interests approach to child protection
emphasizes the protection and well-being of the child, whereas the least
restrictive approach emphasizes the least disruptive course of action that will
leave the child with his or her family, if at all possible.
Bill C-23 - This Bill amends 68 federal statutes to provide same-sex couples
with equal rights and responsibilities as heterosexual married couples. At the
last minute the government introduced a change that excluded same-sex couples
from the definition of marriage.
Biological essentialism in sexual attraction - This approach assumes the
origin of all sexual attraction and behaviour is innate and pre-determined; a
component of the person's biological endowment. It believes the homosexual is
born and professional treatment is required to ensure that the person does not
act upon deviant sexual drives and desires.
Burnout - The term burnout refers to the anxiety resulting from increased
workplace pressure and increased workloads. This type of stress occurs among
social workers and others who are faced with increasing responsibility and less
and less control over how the work is to be completed.
